Andrew Steinmetz

Andrew Steinmetz is the author of a memoir and two collections of poetry. His novel, Eva’s Threepenny Theatre, a finalist for the 2009 Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize and winner of the City of Ottawa Book Award, tells the story of a great-aunt who performed in one of first touring productions of Bertolt Brecht’s masterpiece, The Threepenny Opera, in 1928. His new book, This Great Escape: The Case of Michael Paryla (biblioasis), is another elegant exploration of the intersections of family history, document, and the demands of narrative. Steinmetz is the founding editor of Esplanade Books, the fiction imprint at Véhicule Press. After many years in Montreal, he now lives in Ottawa.
