Audrey Thomas

Audrey Thomas was born in Binghamton, NY, and apart a couple of years in Ghana, has lived in Canada since 1959. Twice nominated for the Governor General’s Award for Fiction, Thomas has received the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize three times, for Intertidal Life, Wild Blue Yonder, and Coming Down from Wa. She has won the Marian Engel Award for her body of work, and in 2008, was made an Officer of the Order of Canada. Her new book, Local Customs (Dundurn), is about a real-life literary figure of the 1830s who marries the British governor on the Gold Coast of West Africa and dies weeks later. Thomas lives on Galiano Island, BC.
