Austin Clarke

Austin Clarke came to Canada from Barbados in his early twenties. He has published six collections of short fiction, four memoirs, and ten novels, including The Origin of Waves, winner of the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, The Question, nominated for a Governor General’s Award, and the internationally-acclaimed The Polished Hoe, which won the Giller Prize and the Commonwealth Writers Prize in 2002. Austin Clarke has been invested with the Order of Canada, and won the WO Mitchell Prize and the Martin Luther King Jr. Award for Excellence in Writing. His new novel, More (Thomas Allen), explores immigrant life in Toronto, the city he now calls home.
