Cara Hedley

Cara Hedley has lived in England and western Canada, and calls Winnipeg and Lake of the Woods home. After playing three seasons with the University of Manitoba Bison women’s hockey team, she moved to Calgary, where she completed an MA in English Literature and Creative Writing. Her debut novel, Twenty Miles (Coach House), which was nominated for the 2008 Margaret Laurence Award for Fiction, is stick-handled by smart-mouthed and astute Isabel. Globe & Mail reviewer Dave Bidini called it one of the year’s “most adventurous works—with prose from the gut, and the game painted naked.” Cara Hedley is at work on a PhD in Calgary.
