George Toles

George Toles is a distinguished professor of English and chair of Film Studies at the University of Manitoba, and the author of A House Made of Light: Essays on the Art of Film. For more than twenty years, he has been the screenwriting collaborator of Guy Maddin, working on such films as The Saddest Music in the World, Brand Upon the Brain!, and My Winnipeg. He also wrote the original story and co-authored the screenplay for Neil Burns’ Edison and Leo (2008), Canada’s first feature length stop-animation film. He is a contributor to David Church’s new book, Playing with Memories: Essays on Guy Maddin (U of Manitoba Press 2009).
