Joan Thomas

Joan Thomas has worked as a freelance writer, reviewer, and editor, as well as an arts administrator. She frequently reviews books for The Globe and Mail, and, with Heidi Harms, co-edited Turn of the Story: Canadian Short Fiction on the Eve of the Millennium. She has won a National Magazine Award, and her interview-based features with writers have been published in the Winnipeg Free Press and Prairie Fire. Her debut novel, Reading by Lightning (Goose Lane), is an intimate and devastatingly funny coming-of-age story. Joan Thomas grew up on the Canadian prairies, and has spent much of her adult life involved in the arts community in Winnipeg.
