John Weier

John Weier was born into a traditional Mennonite family in southern Manitoba, grew up on a farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake, then returned to Winnipeg where he has studied religion, anthropology, and family counseling, worked as a luthier, tracked birds, and written books. He has published a book for young children, a couple of collections of personal essays, three books of fiction, and several collections of poetry, including Ride the Blue Roan and The Violinmaker’s Lament. His new poetry collection, Where Calling Birds Gather (Turnstone), speaks to his abiding love of birds, a passion which has taken him around the world. Weier lives in Winnipeg.
