Lois Braun

Lois Braun grew up in a Mennonite community south of Winnipeg, and taught elementary school in Altona until she retired in 2003. She has published four collections of short fiction, all to great acclaim. A Stone Watermelon was nominated for the Governor General’s Award, and The Pumpkin-Eaters made the short list for the McNally Robinson Book of the Year Award. The Penance Drummer (Turnstone), her most recent collection, was recognized with the Margaret Laurence Award for Fiction at the 2008 Manitoba Book Awards. Lois Braun and her market-gardener husband reside on a small acreage just outside Altona.
