Monia Mazigh

Née en Tunisie, Monia Mazigh a immigré au Canada en 1991. Trilingue (arabe, français et anglais), elle est titulaire d’un doctorat en finances de l’Université McGill. Elle a travaillé à l’Université d’Ottawa et a également enseigné à l’Université Thompson Rivers à Kamloops (Colombie-Britannique). En 2011, elle a publié chez l’Interligne son premier roman, Miroirs et mirages, qui a été finaliste au prix Trillium et au prix de la ville d’Ottawa en 2012. En 2015, elle a publié un deuxième roman, Du pain et du jasmin (Éditions David), qui a été finaliste au Prix Champlain. Elle vit à Ottawa avec sa famille.

 

Monia Mazigh was born and raised in Tunisia and immigrated to Canada in 1991. She holds a PhD in finance from McGill University. She was catapulted onto the public stage in 2002 when her husband, Maher Arar, was deported to Syria where he was tortured and held without charge for over a year. During that time, she campaigned vigorously for his release and reputation. Her memoir Hope and Despair documents their ordeal. Her second novel, published in English translation as Hope Has Two Daughters (Anansi), concerns a mother and daughter caught up in the Tunisian Bread Riots of 1984, and the Arab Spring of 2010. Monia Mazigh lives in Ottawa.
