Steve Kirby

Bassist Steve Kirby has performed across North America, South America, Europe, Japan, and the Middle East, with some of the biggest names in jazz, including a stint with Elvin Jones and the Jazz Machine. In 2003, he moved from New York City of Winnipeg, where he is the Director of Jazz Studies at the U of Manitoba. Alongside his work as a performer, teacher, and clinician, Kirby is the Artistic Director of the Izzy Asper Jazz Performances series and Editor of dig! Magazine. He also spearheads several outreach initiatives, including the Cool Wednesday Night Hang, Jazz on Wheels and most recently The Bridge program.
