Theodore Fontaine

Theodore Fontaine, a member of the Sagkeeng First Nation in Manitoba, attended both the Fort Alexander and Assiniboia Indian Residential Schools, experiences which form the backdrop for his compelling memoir, Broken Circle: The Dark Legacy of Residential Schools (Heritage House). The book has made an impact on both readers and critics, and was shortlisted for the Best First Book at the Manitoba Book Awards. Fontaine has been a respected leader and negotiator for aboriginal peoples, including as Chief of the Sagkeeng First nation, Executive Director of the Assemble of Manitoba Chiefs, and Strategic Advisor to the Chiefs on Indian residential school issues. He lives in Winnipeg.
