Dennis Cooley

Recipient of both the League of Canadian Poets’lifetime member award and the Manitoba Writers’ Guild Lifetime Achievement Award, Dennis Cooley has been a key figure in Winnipeg’s literary community for over 30 years. He has written extensively on Canadian literature, published 20 books of poetry, and edited numerous others. His poetry collection, departures (Turnstone), meditates on health, mortality, memories of ancestors, and his rural Saskatchewan roots. He also published The Home Place: Essays on Robert Kroetsch’s Poetry (University of Alberta), which combines personal recollections, archival materials, and the international body of Kroetsch scholarship. For years a CanLit professor at the University of Manitoba, Cooley, now retired, lives in Winnipeg.
