Theodore Fontaine

Theodore Fontaine, a member of the Sagkeeng First Nation in Manitoba, attended both the Fort Alexander and Assiniboia Indian Residential Schools, experiences which form the backdrop for his compelling memoir, Broken Circle: The Dark Legacy of Indian Residential Schools (Heritage House). He has been a respected leader and negotiator for aboriginal peoples, including as chief of the Sagkeeng First Nation, executive director of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, and Strategic Advisor to the Chiefs on Indian residential school issues. He now chairs the Indigenous Leadership Development Institute, based in Winnipeg.
